How did you manage to catch them Bob? I’m still trying to round them up but they were out on the town with Kevin and Pascal last night and still not home! xxx

You've got time to watch a nice Christmas film before putting the sprouts on Bob. Try and relax, perhaps put the lid on the sprouts so you can't see them and take deep breaths. 😊

Maybe a little early to put the sprouts on but in this house Christmas is well underway. Presents wrapped, cards written complete with stamps, freezer stocked with Christmas goodies. Yesterday the Christmas storage loft opened and decorations brought down bit by bit.

Last three days hubby has been busy putting lovely cool white exterior lights in the trees, all very tasteful I might add !

Am I excited, nope, baa humbug, but husband is a Christmas fanatic so who am I to spoil his joy. Daughter put her tree up yesterday too but she has a six and two year old so allowed after a dull weird year I think.

Got to bring some lightheartedness in these hitherto dark days.

Sam has been singing "It's beggining to look a lot like Christmas" for weeks and we went on a shopping trip as soon as the garden centres started their Christmas displays and bought about 40 yards or icicle lights. We also bought a small growing tree to replace the 12ft one on the front terrace that started that tiny ten years ago when we planted it. (12ft one now taking too much light from the house and will come down after Christmas.) Making stuffings this afternoon and maybe mincemeat for pies later. The boys are quite underwhelmed!

Now I've been put in the mood by hearing Bob's wife's been singing a Christmas song. Please all get your Christmas AF songs ready for a few weeks time. An old one of mine below from a few years ago:

Dashing through the snow in a one horse open sleigh,

All in sinus rhythm and laughing all the way.

Bells on Bobs sleigh ring, a wee dram makes him bright.

What fun it is as John skis by checking we're alright!

Tibetan bells, Tibetan bells CD plays today.

Oh what calm she brings to us in a caring peaceful way.

Tibetan bells, Tibetan bells jingle all the way.

Oh what fun to be so well on a snowy Christmas day!

Unfortunately, I still don't have a mike or camera. Do like poetry, so must really buy some so that I can join in with your group.

Last year my daughter bought two small soft toy elves from b and m and told the kiddies that Santa’s helpers had sent them in advance to watch if the kids had been good and report back to Santa. We had great fun moving them around the room when the children were not looking and they would point in awe that they were indeed following them and watching what they were up too. They did the job wonderfully on the behaviour front.

Yesterday Amelia aged six was watching her daddy bringing down the Christmas decorations and saw the elves in the loft. Jack aged two and a half pointed to them and looked confused. Amelias response was I guess Santa has sent them early because he is busy avoiding covid so he got them to us early and don’t worry Jack, Santa will still come on Christmas Eve because he has key work status. Problem solved lol.

Don't worry, it's the trend to start Christmas celebrations early this year to take our minds off of covid. Lights are up and on in my street, so why not some early mince pies too. Eat, drink (water🙄) and be merry 😋.

A bit late but they should be ok!

To cook them properly they should be dropped in boiling water for two minutes. Removed, drained and dropped in liquid chocolate. Cooled on a drying rack and wrapped in silver paper.

If you have a ferrerro Roche box they will store quite nicely...

Hi BobD, I have bought my first sprouts on Friday. I like them to have the frost on them first but I couldn't resist them. 👍

I've enjoyed and smiled at the replies about sprouts, but what are sprouts? I'm not from the UK.

They are ( full name) brussel sprouts. Small green cabbage like vegetables which tradationally are boiled to death at Christmas time. These days the smaller varieties are actually quite sweet if not over cooked but the tradition remains. It is usually a sign that Christmas is near when sprouts go on to boil.

How interesting , I know what Brussel sprouts are but I don’t hear them referred to as just sprouts. And I eat them but never associated them with Christmas!

I enjoyed learning something new about how others celebrate Christmas. Thanks!

Had our first sprouts this week-end a new variety which were tiny & delicious and tasted like chestnuts. Why wait until Christmas Bob? Sprout salad, sprout soup, sprout pies....as you aren’t having any Christmas Cake......mmmm.... maybe that’s stretching it a bit!

I don't think so ,especially if you are going for that mushy texture. Victoria Wood used to say her Aunt put her sprouts on in November, so you are in good company.

I put some on yesterday and ate them with our Sunday roast.

Talking of roasting, you should try roasting sprouts in olive oil ... yummy 😋

Ok Lemon, parsley and thyme stuffing and chestnut stuffings made and in the freezer. Mincemeat next.

I’d never have guessed the sprouts you were referring to were Brussels sprouts. We don’t traditionally have them at Christmastime but all countries are different. We always have sweet corn, mashed potatoes, maybe peas, green beans with our turkey. Since were not ham lovers. Always hot rolls and pie. Coming originally from Iowa, that’s our jam. A very merry Christmas to you all. 🎄 Sarah from San Diego 🌴
