TRIGGERS

I read a response to a post today that said their AF runs in a 3 week cycle, this at a time were I am thinking the same. I have not been in AF or Afl since my ablation in Feb 2019 but do suffer periodically from ectopics and short runs of Palpitations (or AT or MAT) - I must add that neither are particularly bad but they do remind me the all is still not as it should be. My ectopics tend to happen at rest so I believe its because my HR goes too low (around 55) and allows them to happen, the palpitation happen when I have been exerting for a period of time or under stress (I once had them for around 20 seconds in a dentist chair before root canal treatment and once for around a minute during exertion). Thankfully they go away, normally after around 10 seconds. I think I become more susceptible periodically and I am currently keeping an account to see if in fact they are cyclonic.

Whilst I believe there are many triggers I would be interested to know if anyone else has noticed such a cyclonic trend to their condition where triggers are more effective at setting the condition off than at other times. Of course it could all just be a coincidence but!!!

I can only speak from personal expercience Shc.

I can't say that my afib runs in cycles. For me since a successful CV I've had two episodes - both happened when I was traveling with little sleep (defo a 'trigger' for me).

I suggest keeping a written record of everytime this happens. Maybe you'll find a connection and can discuss this with your cardio.

Other than that I can't help really.

Enjoy your (wet) weekend.

Thank you, it seems that there are not many that believe cycles have much of an affect.

Hi Shcldavies :-) my P-AF episodes certainly seem to have have their own inbuilt clock these days and although some episodes appear to have have been prompted by getting stressed/overtired, most don't have a discernible trigger but follow a set pattern.

The pattern since last December has been a symptomatic episode every 10-12 days lasting 8-10 hours.

I asked an EP if this frequency and severity was damaging my heart and he said that was unlikely which was reassuring and it seems to be born out by a recent ECHO which is similar to one I had three years ago .

It is almost as though there is a build up of 'something' that gets released then I am ok for the next few days . I think it is very strange.

Since August I have had 2 occasions where I had 2 episodes in 3 days every 10 days, I hope this isn't a new pattern I find it exhausting and am desperately trying to be prescribed Flecainide to see if it helps.

I think there is a lot still to be learnt about AF .

Thank you, I understand what you say that it feels like a build up of something, I also used to think that way, now I am not so sure.

It always happens at rest with me ,normally in bed when heart rate goes slow 40 or so. Triggers are tiredness, fatigue and too many ‘sherbets ‘ but a couple of pints can be beneficial may be because it increases my heart rate.
