Be persistent, it pays off

Hi all,

I hope you are all keeping safe and sane?

Yesterday I received a call from my EP as my face to face appointment was cancelled for obvious reasons. Since my ablation in May 2018 my symptoms have been much improved, but not enough to let me live the life I want to given my age and I have a young family. I’ve recorded cardiac events and been sending them to my Arrythmia nurses. They’ve often dismissed the events saying I should not be concerned about them, but I’ve been pushing for a second ablation as for the last 6 months even walking with a bag of shopping has triggered me. It’s easy for others to say it’s ok when it’s not then it’s happening to on a daily basis.

Well yesterday after speaking with the EP he agreed I need a second ablation, and is confident that it will hopefully be the last I need. It’ll be done under general anaesthetic which I am not bothered about, just curious as to why. Always the way that you have these questions afterwards!

But I’m glad that pushing and being persistent has ultimately got me back on the operating table. Let’s hope this time it’s a final solution!

Many EPs prefer GA (I have had four that way) as they have an anaesthetist to look after you while they work. Also usual for RF ablations whereas many EPs use sedation for cryo.

Being pedantic it isn't an operation rather a procedure so done in a Catheter Laboratory but glad things are looking up for you.

I really hope this second ablation leaves you feeling so much better. Have you any idea how long it will be before you can have it carried out? I had two ablations with sedation only, then a third with a GA and far preferred that method.

Your final solution words reminded me of WW2 and the German concentration camps.

As well as to a lot of the death camps, I've been to the building where they had the Wannsee Conference and decided on the awful fate of mostly Jews. That meeting has been labelled as the final solution.

My one and only Ablation was done under GA, due to other health issues and me not being able to guarantee that I could lie still for 4 hours.

Glad it was done under GA to be honest, the thought of being even partially aware terrifys me.

Well done with the persistence, sometimes we need to be a pain in the bum to get someone to listen to us

I’ve had 4 ablations- the first for SVT was done under sedation and was horrid; the other three under general anaesthetic which was so much better. Give me a GA any day!

All 4 of mine were with a GA. My EP said ' I want to be able to concentrate and not having you potentially moving around.'

I get the feeling you're not in the US? I am in the US I just had an ablation done last Thursday mine was general anesthesia I don't know if that's more of a common practice here or just with my particular doctor. I can tell you my doctor is one of the best United States and one of his partners it's often mentioned here doctor Vitaly and they share a lot of the same practices

Not what you're looking for?
