Remember the days when everybody got together for a stylish wedding, smart suits, fantastic frocks, children with clean, shiny faces and much excitement all round. Shiny motor cars scattered all around the church and much hand shaking, laughing and kissing going on.
This was a church wedding and there was quite a congregation. Sunlight streaming through the stained glass windows and everyone in place. The Vicar smiled at everybody and began the service "We are gathered here together.." and off he went with the service.
Eventually he reached the point where he said " If anyone present believes this wedding should not proceed, speak now or forever hold your peace"
At that point a rather lovely, tall young blonde woman, carrying a baby on her hip walked forward and stopped by the assembled group. The bride took one look at her and landed a haymaker on the groom who collapsed in a big heap. A stream of furious invective came raging out, questioning his parentage.
The bride's mother fainted and her husband caught her in his arms, while glaring at the grooms father. The groom's father picked his son up and had a few fatherly words of enquiry. The best man was looking at the young woman in complete astonishment. Every one was glaring at everyone else.
The Vicar realised that he had to get a grip or there would mayhem. "Quiet please" he shouted. "Quiet". He turned to the young woman. "Speak" he said.
"We can't hear you at the back", she said.
