Trying to keep things in perspective........a personal view

Whilst we are all venturing into the unknown, and that includes medics, politicians and us, the general public, the general consensus of opinion is that this virus appears not to be airborne. If this is the case, then logic tells us that it spreads through personal contact and because the over 70’s are more vulnerable to respiratory problems, the government needs to take action to prevent them from catching the virus. The reason for this is simple. It will flood the NHS and they would not be able to cope.

If, as is likely, over 70’s are asked to self isolate for an extended period, it is being done in an attempt to encourage them to behave sensibly to save lives and not to persecute.

At the moment, the indications are that AF in itself, does not put us in the category of having underlying health issues. However, as is often said, the company AF keeps might. Therefore conditions such as diabetes, heart failure, high blood pressure etc are likely to apply. As will any respiratory conditions such as COPD and asthma.

This is purely my personal take on the situation and I maybe proved to be totally wrong but I thought I would share .......stay safe and don’t take unnecessary risks.

I agree John totally. Sadly this forum . designed to help AF sufferers has been overwhelmed with things about Covid19 of which we have zero knowledge despite Admin having posted advice some time ago. You may have noticed that I am not responding to such posts, only those genuine AF related ones as my guess is as good as anybodies.

Im on a few forums here and a dog group on facebook, they are all flowing over with virus concerns. It is sad, people are so anxious right now worldwide. Hoping they( we) dont turn to unhealthy coping things which may stir up the a fib monster. Prays for all.

BobD I understand where you're coming from and the importance of generally keeping comments here on the subject of atrial fibrillation. The coronavirus surely has to be an exception as its the very life changing topic of the moment, that just about everyone in the world wants to talk about right now.

This includes most of us on this forum who are generally people who have had nothing like this happen in their lives before! It's a very serious occurrence, but some members have become quite good friends, even though never having met. Good friends like to discuss rare, major worldwide and very serious subjects and offer support to others who are concerned. Even to lighten the seriousness of it if they can.

Many members here have isolated themselves from other people already and some live on their own. You have your wife and family to discuss the subject with, but you must realise that some may not have that luxury of people with whom to share their thoughts, but they have friends here who gladly offer a listening ear.

So for now, at this very odd and unique moment in our lives, lets not worry about a few coronavirus posts.

The whole point Jean is that we are all in the dark and there is so much fake news which can be dangerous. I dont know what are facts and what are Ivanovich's miss-directions. Best let Admin post correct news when available rather than some of the rot already out there.

I have never and have no intention of telling anyone what they can or can't do with regards to the coronavirus. I've not heard any fake news and the government's recommendations will be changing daily. I like hearing peoples thoughts and opinions, gives me some good ideas to know how other people will survive staying home for such a long period.

I think what you were saying is we shouldn't discuss the virus on here and I'm saying it's fine, why not? Just different opinions and nothing wrong with either of our views.

You've said it all Jean. It can't be much fun being by yourself at this very disturbing time.

Bob :-) I too can understand 'where you are coming from ' as they say and it must be a bit daunting for anyone arriving at a site dedicated to AF and looking for answers about it to be faced with a barrage of off-topic threads.

Unfortunatly I think it is something we are going to have to 'grin and bear' for the moment unless Admin dictates otherwise .

Personally I would prefer topics to remain site related but I appreciate others don't share my view so I intend to do my best to support anyone who needs it and try to steer off topic topics to the few known facts about C19 rather than speculation.

According to the latest news this is not a 'temporary' illness so self isolating is giving the NHS etc time to get ready for the moment when we do get it. So I'm working on the principle that I'm doing the same - looking after my health and sorting out anything that needs doing just as if I had a terminal illness. I'm planning to enjoy myself too - if anyone is interested in reading the story of my childhood please sign up now 😉

Thankyou
