My husband is 57, went into ER in January and diagnosed with AF and heart failure. After cardioversion and anti-arrhythmic drugs, as well as metoprolol (beta blocker) and lisinopryl (ACE inhibitor), he has had no more AF and his heart failure drastically improved by March. And he had an ablation about six weeks ago. After visiting his cardiologist, he has just been informed that the latest thinking regarding heart failure is that it is better to stay on the beta blocker and ACE inhibitor for possibly several more years, because they have found that in about 50% of the cases, the heart failure comes back after stopping those drugs. That was disappointing news, but luckily my husband tolerates those well. I just thought people might be interested in hearing this.
