irina1975 has a Watchman, and is very knowledgeable and helpful. I don’t think she would mind if you sent her a PM (Chat above). She is in the US.

I am considering having the watchman fitted privately in the UK.
To qualify on the NHS you have to show a allergic reaction to blood thinners or have a bleed. I really believe this device will help but would like a bit reassurance of its reliability.
Any help or advice would be appreciated.
Thank you
I am in the UK. I had the atriclip, which is a similar device placed externally. No problems with it. Also able to come off rivaroxaban after the ablation was successful.
There are theories that the LAA is required for something, possibly related to immunity, but no noticeable change in health.
This was the second appendix I had removed, the more common one went after a bout of acute appendicitis in 1974.
Hi dd64, I am from the Uk and had the Watchman device fitted in 2016, and touch wood I have had no problems since with it. If you have any specific questions you need answering, please do not hesitate to ask.
Best wishes, sharon
I am going to have to get it done private as I don't fit the NHs criteria. But I am seeing a cardiologist in April to discuss the goods and bads of the device. I just need a shove in the right direction to get it done as I am a bit nervous about the op.
Any help will be appreciated.

Hi again, I had mine done due to having 2 strokes, the first being a brain stem clot and being put on anti coagulants and then sure enough the second stroke 3 years later was a bleed on the brain! (Can't get much more unlucky can ?) I had a general anesthetic and an overnight stay, but went home the next day. I had no pain either during or after the proceedure and haven't had any since, in fact I don't even know it's happened! (except I now take one less tablet!). I now feel a lot more at ease about the possibility of having another stroke.
Knowing now what the proceedure entailed, if I had to go through it again, I would be more nervous about paying out all that money, than any effects of the proceedure.
I hope you have an informative meeting with the consultant, and good luck and good health for the outcome. Please keep me informed of the outcome.
Best wishes, sharon
I had the Amplatzer amulet fitted privately in 2017 and it was a problem free experience and it is a relief to be Warfarin free. As I have a tissue aortic valve NOAC's are not recommended by the makers although some cardiologists over ride that ruling.
The Amplatzer is cheaper to have done privately for some reason and it has a bigger range of sizes. One poster here went for a Watchman but they fitted an Amplatzer as there was not a suitable Watchman size.
It is day surgery if done in the morning. Mine was not done until late afternoon so I had an overnight stay.
