"Urgent and drastic changes to the rules around medical devices, such as pacemakers, are needed to protect patients" Royal college of Surgeons, as reported by BBC Panorama and on the BBC News today. Prof Derek Alderson said "all implantable devices should be registered and tracked to monitor efficacy and patient safety in the long term.

New medical device regulations come into force in Europe in 2020. German MEP Dagmar Roth Behrendt said that an intensive campaign by manufacturers has undermined the proposed reforms. " it is a success for them and a failure for the European parliament and patients"
