Prof Derek Alderson said "all implantable devices should be registered and tracked to monitor efficacy and patient safety in the long term.

New medical device regulations come into force in Europe in 2020. German MEP Dagmar Roth Behrendt said that an intensive campaign by manufacturers has undermined the proposed reforms. " it is a success for them and a failure for the European parliament and patients"

This investigation into problematic medical devices includes pacemakers, apparently. In Australia, I think that there is a link on the ABC news website which lists devices where there have been problems.
