what is NVAF?
The booklet they gave me said helping to prevent strokes caused by non valvular atrial fibrillation Was for my Apixaban
Ok short explanation. Non valvular AF just means that it is not apparently caused by any valve issues. When the mitral valve leaks it can cause enlargement of the left atrium due to excessive back pressure. This can lead to the breakdown of natural pathways and result in extra ones forming and causing AF. The same enlargement can occur with athletes which is why they are at greater risk of developing AF.
I presume that your scan and echo cardiograms did not show any major valve damage (most people have some leakage) so unless you have been told otherwise you have what is known as lone AF , i e not caused by any other cardiac issues or non valvular. Since Non Valvular Atrial Fibrillation is not a commonly used term, you may find it useful to define any acronyms you use for the first time as I try to do.
Was just told I had AF and my clinic appointment was a normal appointment Still learning Bob We all have to learn Some more than others which seem to include me
I've been building race engine for fifty years and still learning!
When we stop learning I guess we're dead!

Lol so I been told lol Guess it's being in the job I am and dealing with other professionals
I have leaking valves and an Aortic Aneurysm does that make me something different I am on edoxaban and an enlarged left side of heart atrium and ventricle. No one has told me anything at cardiology.

I haven't been yet Go in July Doctor from hospital phoned me Told me I had AF That was it and appointment be sent out I got a booklet from blood clinic with that write on with my Apixaban so thought I would ask on here How are things for you
Everybody has some leakage and the aortic aneurysm wont affect your AF although it is your biggest challenge.
Good morning Bob How are you today
Doing a great impression of the Ouselem bird this morning. Quick bite of lunch then housework before SWMBO (she who must be obeyed) gets home from work.
