An ablation is a procedure whereby a specialist Cardiologist Electrophysiologist passes a catheter up through your vein from your groin and into your heart. Using high tech equipment the chaotic electrical paths are identified and using the tip of the catheter burns are made to the inside of your heart. The resultant scarring interupts the electrical paths resulting in stopping Atrial Fibrillation, Tachycardia or Flutter.

The ablation is often targeted around the pulmonary vein.
