Hi everyone. A question. My AF has changed from very fast heartbeats to heart skipping lots of beats per minute in the last 2 days. Any ideas?

Hello Gwersey :-) have you been diagnosed with AF which is characterised by an irregular or 'chaotic' heart beat that need not necessarily be fast ...

Other types of arrhythmia have a fast heart beat so you need to determine which kind you have.

Skipped beats are often 'ectopic beats' discussed here....

Yes I've been diagnosed with PAF. Am taking bisoprolol, flecanide and apixiban. Always had fast heartbeats, never ectopic beats. That's why I'm concerned at my PAF going rogue...

PAF is ALWAYS Rogue. It is such a mongrel condition there is no right or wrong to it. Many people with AF also get ectopics, often in clusters and until you get experienced enough it is hard to tell what is happening.

Thanks for that. All very new and quite raw to me still.

I should ask your doctor about this - if these are pauses it needs attentention and measurement to see how long there are for etc

In my recent opinion you should try to get them caught on monitor to see exactly what they are and how many, three or more pvc on the trot becomes ventricular tachycardia, which if self terminates before 30 secs usually isn’t of concern in an otherwise healthy heart, it’s known as unsustained ventricular tachycardia, however anything over 30 secs is classed as ventricular tachycardia and can be very serious leading to ventricular fibrilation,

I only know this as they picked up a 5 sec run of them on my holter last week and now want me to have a mri to make sure there’s no abnormalities in my heart

I think this is where having your own personal 2 or 3 lead ECG is essential as you can catch what the heart is doing at its worst point and then show the printout to a specialist to get a proper diagnosis, or even to this forum for an unqualified first opinion.

Does anyone out there have a Reveal fitted? I had one inserted in September but EP didn't say how long I'd have it in for.
