Ablation sorry

LOVE the typo! When did you have your pacemaker fitted as this has to happen first and usually a six week wait afterwards to make sure everything is settled before the AV node is ablated. ?

Had it fitted three years ago

It depends where you choose (if you have a choice) to go - Liverpool, Manchester, Wythenshawe or Blackpool?

Been told it's Blackpool

Good place! But it could be a long wait. It depends who you see. My EP in Blackpool told me in January that his list was then 6 months long.

She is the one who fitted my pacemaker but couldn't get one of the wires in and ended up at wythenshaw and they did it

in reply to Wesman90

Wythenshawe is another good place!

Hi, I'm waiting for an ablation at Blackpool. My consultant told me his waiting list is 12 months!

Me too. I saw Dr S Chalil earlier this month, and his waiting list is 12 months long. Twenty days later I still haven't heard from his secretary with my copy of the report to my GP. They are all so busy.

in reply to momist

You won't believe this! I have been on the waiting list since June and ten minutes ago I had a call from Dr Chalil's sec offering me a cancellation next Tuesday but we are away! We never go anywhere usually - just my luck!

Tough luck! Is the trip really necessary? I cancelled a trip to Germany this week due to family problems, and just bore the loss of the airfare. I doubt travel insurance would pay out for a 'change of mind' even if I'd had any. It's a huge expense, but family comes first, after my own health. The family would understand if I put my own health before their concerns, I think.

Good to know that a cancellation list exists, once things have been set up properly, I must make sure I'm on it.

in reply to momist

Well the other thing that concerned me was that Dr Chalil wanted me to have anticoagulants for several weeks before the ablation and there wouldn't have been time for that. Anyway, his sec says she's put me on the cancellation list so it might be worth giving her a ring and saying you're available at short notice too. Good luck! How long have you been waiting?

Not long at all. I saw Dr Chalil only three weeks ago, and have still not been put on the Bisoprolol and anti-coagulant that he said he would ask my GP to arrange for. He also said I would get a copy of his report to the GP, but I've heard nothing yet. I guess this equals 'not yet on his list' at all. Good luck to you for getting in early.

Has anyone looked at costs of having it done privately and if they do it ???

Hi Wesman90 I was lucky enough to have mine done privately through my husbands company scheme. They sent me a breakdown and the cost was £18,000.

Oh wow that's way out of my reach looks like I will have to wait. Really struggling to sleep with it hot sweats and panic attacks keep me awake

I was really surprised at the cost to be honest but then there were 7 medical staff in theatre for the procedure . The EP cost was 1,800 the anaesthetist was 1,000 and the rest was the equipment and the staff.

Ask to go on the cancellation list or see the EP privately at a cost of around 200 and see if you can then move up the NHS list if you feel your symptoms are getting worse. Good luck

Any body know if it’s possible to be on two waiting lists for ablation, thinking of trying to get on wythenshaw as well as I spent time in there also

Been told yesterday you can be on two ablation lists at two different hospitals but would have to start at the beginning again. Also found out you can have it done privately but it’s eight and a half thousand pounds looks like I will have to wait
