I was put on amiodarone in the hospital after SVT (super ventricular tachycardia). I titered down to 200mg daily after.infusions and 400mg daily. I am on beta blocker with low BP.
I was told i would be on amiodarone for 3 months but am now realizing they want to extend and I am not sure what their protocol for reducing is. I am caught between my local cardiologist that wants to go down to 100 and wean off now and my sirgeons/hospital but I have not had no more arthymias. Of course we will watch and be cautious.
I am having horrible side effects from amiodaeone mostly twitching, dropping things, coughing, visual disturbances and I am not sure if the checking at night is also a side effect. How long have you been on amiodarone? Did you experience a reduction of symptoms when going down to 100 or even off. I realize there is a half life of 60 days. I am due to meet with the electronic physicist to review. I have a mechanic valve enlargement with BAV. Would love to speak with others who have had multiple surgeries who also had tachycardia. Thanks

I had a terrible time on Amiodorone, half life is between 15 and 142 days. I was on it for 4 or 5 months , side effects were so bad I was told by my EP to stop taking it immediately.
It did not get me in to NSR before my cardioversion, but I believe it helped keep me in NSR for the 6 months after, but glad to not be taking it anymore
I have taken this medication following my ablation in May when the following day I went into atrial tachycardia. A cardioversion didn't work so I was put on Amiodarone. Luckily I have been in NSR since mid May. I have however suffered from heat exhaustion whilst on it. I will be seeing my EP in August and I am really hoping that I can stop taking it as it is the heat more than anything else that is affecting me. I am taking 200mg once a day.
My EP did say when he prescribed it that he doesn't recommend anyone staying on it for longer than one year.
