AF and insanity.

Just wondering if there is any connection between AF and insanity. I'm just back from a two day 600 mile trip in some of the worst weather for years only to find that 40 miles from home the roads were washed out and I had a 60 mile detour.

Whilst away I tested two race engines both of which gave record power, gave myself a free cardioversion whilst adjusting the ignition timing on one of them thanks to a faulty lead and then delivered one of the engines fifty miles off my route.

Once back I had to unload the remaining engine and all my tools and then drive another five miles to return the hired van and collect my car.

Once finally home the first thing I do is check the forum to see how you all are.

Now I ask you are these the actions of a sane and rational man of 71 and 3/4 s????

And so to bed.

Bob

Now everyone will want a free cardioversion :-) Sounds like you had fun with your favorite things. No comments on your sanity :-) Have a good sleep!

Two things i have got from race engines, tinnitus and serious enjoyment.

Bob, as long as you're happy insanity doesn't come into it. You have to laugh in the end

I'm completely bonkers, to live where I'd do, you have to be. I mean, my toilet washes my bum for me ......

You should change your name to Biddy:-)

A play on words biddy. A toilet that washes your underparts is called a Bidet.

Sounds brilliant. It has obviously given you a huge buzz to behave like an insane 20 year old version of yourself. When I depart this world I hope it is in the middle of just such a project. That being said, it sounds like a few days R & R are in order. Stay well.

Whatever made you think you were sane Bob? Glad to hear that you are keeping well. Pat

I would only worry if the engines weren't Triumphs 😊

Reminds me of my son's comment on a hobby of mine....

" Why do you do it?"

" To keep me sane"

" Well Mum, it's not working!"

Know the feeling spent 30 mins searching through my utensil draws looking for my pizza cutter when it wasn't hanging where it usually is only to find I had already put it on the table oops going nuts

Ah ha, great story.

I'm car mad like you Bob, and it's definitely a sign of madness. Mind you I felt a little more normal after speaking to a young farmer the other day, who rallies as a hobby. We got talking and apparently his car-mad dad has something a bit special in one of his sheds. When he told me what it was I couldn't believe my ears, but he assures me it's true......a Harrier Jump Jet......and it runs, but he's not allowed to take off so it never leaves the ground. Wonder what horse-power it is?

about 26.000lbs I think plus water injection.

in reply toBobD

I fitted water injection to my SAAB 99 Turbo many years ago, the kit cost me £35. It went like the clappers till the turbo blew up ☹️.

seasider18 profile image
seasider18 in reply to

How much did he pay for it?

We were standing in front of a high wall on Gibraltar when a Harrier Jet took off behind it. God, we jumped almost as high and as fast as it did.

I don't know. Why, are you looking for one?

Know the feeling Bob. Every time I go to the doctors, he just asks how long I want to be signed off sick? And he never seems to understand my answer of "I don't go sick, I work for a living". I just put it down to the culture we live in, even though some days I struggle to get out of bed.

Come on now Bob! Who wants to be sane and rational = normal and boring? You're obviously not, so carry on living a 'full' life. Long may you continue having fun and facing life's challenges head on! What stories you'll have to tell when you are older!

Jean

Love this Bob and all I can say is keep up the good work and carry on as you are. I am in a similar mode and having been a working Saddler all my life am still doing it on a smaller scale at the age of 79 despite the dreaded AF!!!😉😉😂

Rellim296 profile image
Rellim296

Why do you think there's some connection, Bob? Your AF is extremely dormant, if not extinct.

BobD profile image

But what about the 14 years I had it before ablation? ha ha. Any case I don't tell you all everything. Man has to have some secrets.

Rellim296 profile image
Rellim296 in reply toBobD

Well, yes. 14 years has evidently built up quite a legacy. Long lasting, isn't it!

And then what did you do in the afternoon Bob? Seems perfectly normal for a 71&3/4yrs especially when you are a 63,11months,2days year old (F)who does equally 'normal' things. I know Bob, write a diary and change your name to Adrian. 😂

Prefer you to be sane as that would be a great example to us all when the going gets tough (_ _ _ _) !

Hehehe who wants to be sane... Loving the diary, I always say a good shock story first thing in the morning is just what you need! :D

Not the signs of someone who is insane, but of someone who cares! Thank you for that Bob. Now enjoy your rest!

I was dancing with a psychiatrist many years ago and I said in a slightly slurred voice " Don't know why I'm dancing worth you, I'm perfectly sane" His response "whoever told you that?"

Fab story Bob,there's life in the slightly older dog yet!

Noooooo!! I would definitely think my husband had gone round the twist if he did that but as they say, each to their own. Although that said he is driving all the way to Bristol for a game of squash at 75.

Oh by the way maybe I could pop round for one of those free cardioversions, I could do with it.

I once heard that insanity was hereditary , you get it from the kids . With 3 of them I must be totally bonkers and ready for a straight jacket . However , AF, I reckon is the ticker telling you to slow down a bit and look after yourself more .

oltimer profile image
oltimer

No ! I agree Bob D - they are not the actions of a sane man & I advise that if you wish to recover your sanity you should seek out a Consultant Psychiatrist who might have a pill for such an affliction - but you seem to have self treated yourself with the equivalent of ECT (Electro Convulsive Therapy) & so hopefully you have recovered your normal mental status.

Cheers man!

Ol` Timer.

Good job you got rid of the Alfa.....it would be a right rusty heap of junk by now!!

Long live insanity!!!!

Hey Bob, had to laugh at the HT lead problem. I have been an Engineer for 34 years and at times working inside live transformers. During that time, I never received a 240V shock. In the last month I have had 2, one from wiring up a pond pump and not realising I had left the mains on and the second from a metal hand guard on an angle grinder. I hope that this has not caused any further heart problems, DIY cardioversion.

BobD profile image
BobDVolunteer in reply toRichMert

AC doesn't do it right but 25k volts DC wakes you up . Straight up one arm and down the other. I still have a pair of side cutters with no blades from working on a house where the previous owner had wired a cooker hood from the garage consumer unit not the house one.

I know trying to get any action from the NHS can drive you mad!

Bob, we can't have you going off having a shocking time - we need you with us! Pat .

Just got to chip in on this one it would be insane not to.

Reminds of a response from a friend to his wife when told he was going through his 2nd Childhood - he replied , Ive not left the first yet.

An ex colleague suggested I pop down anytime for a Cardio Version. He works on the 25Kv overhead line - I declined the offer.

I must admit I have done some pretty crazy things in my life I don't know if the AF is because I'm crazy or because I'm crazy I have AF. I am 70 but determined to carry on, crazy or not.
