Never mind AF, I would have to be at death's door for you to get me in one of those things. Seriously the biggest problem will probably be vibration and noise. If they don't trouble you no problem but choppers have that in spades.

I love flying in small planes and choppers even more but have on had four flights on them. First time I was sure that I had not shut the door properly as the pilot who looked about 16 shot up in the air as soon as I sat down.

I used to work beside Battersea Heliport but never got a free trip as one ex RAF pilot in our office regularly did.

I have a friend who used to work at Farnborough and he described a helicopter as a device to simultaneously test to destruction all the mechanical parts. I flew a light aircraft as a small boy but fear eventually kicked in as I got older. I do know the whereabouts of the Auster I flew back then and have been promised a flight in it when it has been restored but not sure I won't bottle it.

And that's said by a man who I bet would be quite happy to be in a Formula 1 racing car???!!!

Yes but if the engine stops you just slow down not fall out of the sky! Let's kill this thread now before we scare people.

Yes I did a flight into the Grand Canyon. No problems. I have also been on a 45 minute flight on a seaplane that is apart from long haul flights. Live life to the full!

Yes, I've "toured" Birmingham by helicopter. My only problem was that the thing looked as if it was made of glass -- except for the tail end. So when the chopper banked over on my side, I felt as if there was nothing between me and the streets of Birmingham only a thin sheet of glass.

I've also done a trip around Caernarfon Castle and out over the Menai Strait in a Cessna. That was brilliant! we got some terrific photos.

I won't get on a commercial flight because I'm claustrophobic, but both of the above were great. :)

Glad you enjoyed it but know what you mean re not thinking anything between you and the streets I'll give helicopter a miss I think. Virgin now querying whether I can fly in the morning !

I hope Virgin give you the thumbs up, Lisa -- assuming you want to fly. (The helicopter didn't really frighten me. The sheet of glass thing was a passing thought. I was glad of the chopper opportunity!)
