I yesterday had an ablation and my symptoms have returned as they were before. Does this mean the procedure hasn't worked or am I expecting too much too soon.

Hi. I also had a return of symptoms within 24 hours with a full blown AF episode and my ablation did not ultimately work. However...do not lose heart (no pun intended)....the heart does not like being messed with and it is natural for it to be a bit upset after being ablated...it can apparently take several months to know if an ablation has truly worked so this could just be your recovery process. Most people i speak to their ablations did work or greatly decreased their symptoms. Some people do need 2 or 3 for full effect so best wishes and rest now and recover. I hope any symptoms you do get are bearable

Frankly yes you are. Most likely because the procedure and results have never been fully explained to you. I was the same back in 2006 when I expected to be dancing down the ward next morning.
It take at least three if not six months for the scar tissue which will block the rogue impulses to from so of course you will have some events in that time. Give it time but if you are worried discuss it with the arrhythmia nurse where you had the ablation done.
Right now you need lots of rest and plenty of hydration so drink at least two litres of water a day and that does not include tea or coffee and heaven forbid alcohol.
Try to relax it is far too early even to think about results.
