It was for atrial fibrillation, and my husband said 'it's nothing to worry about and was completely painless with no after effects'.

That's brill, thanks for letting us know.

This gives me hope that one day all ablations will be that smooth. As more and more surgeons and their teams refine the procedure and gain skill, there will be fewer of the negative stories that we sometimes hear about.

My worry has always been that I'll get the procedure done, I'll be one of the unlucky ones with negative and irreversible side effects, and six months later modern medicine will come up with a revolutionary new method for surgically repairing AFib and will denounce current procedures of ablation as barbaric and historical, in the same category as rubbing mercury on a cut. But I realize this is paranoia - these positive stories help a lot! :)

my husband had a night cough and breathlessness on easy tasks and after much nagging from me a visit to the doctor showed a heart rate of 168. He spent two weeks in our local hospital before being transferred to St Bartholomew's in London where he had his ablation. All of his symptoms have gone and his condition is controlled by medication. He has heart failure but it doesn't seem to affect him too much. The ablation was three years ago in June and he has been discharged from the specialist and is monitored by our GP. He is 62 and he says he's as good as new. I hope that this helps.
