Pill in pocket
I was prescribed Flecainide as pill in the pocket.
Flecainide or propafanone.
Metoprolol (a beta blocker) can be used as a pill in the pocket. It was the first tablet I was prescribed.
I use Bisoprolol as a pip ( not that it has much effect )
Flecanaide.
Flecainide is a good example of an effective pip. While not in AF you remain drug free but when it occurs, pop a flec and bingo, it's gone.
Before ablation, I was tried on flecainide with little effect. 15 months post ablation, having AF episodes again, I tried the flec as a pip, 100 mg, and it definitely worked this time, usually 24 hours before AF started up again. Consult by email with doc was advised best used in consistent dosage, twice daily, as prescribed, so I tried 50 mg every 12 hours instead with good success so far. That said, my AF tends to be persistent, not occasional, so perhaps the more rare episode responding to pip treatment is best. When in doubt, ask the EP (your electrician doc).
I was told PIP was Flec (0r another alternative I forget). But, that since patients were usually taking a betablocker, usually bisoprolol, and I was not taking that either, then for me PIP was both Flec and Bisoprolol. The dosage of each was reduced according to my documented past experience with both meds.
Here is a good example where I did my homework before self treating, but waited to start until I had seen an expert. From my own research I would have found only flec.
