On Apixaban ---Pleased or not?

Hi everyone.

Those of you on Apixaban, are you pleased or not?

Especially those of you who have changed from Warfarin. Do you feel happier now? Would love to hear your experiences of the changing over and whether you have experienced any problems since.

Thanks Joyce

I switched from Warfarin to Rivaroxaban and it transformed my life for the better. If I say I didn't get on well with Warfarin, it does not quite put you in the picture. It might have kept me free from a stroke but it dominated my life in a detrimental way and it is bliss to have got away from it. I don't have any problems or fears with Rivaroxaban.

Over 12 months on apixaban. Wonderfully liberating compared to the old warfarin regime. No adverse side effects and recently my second blood test for liver/kidney function shows all is well. (You will have one at 3 months after starting on apixaban and then annually).

Apixaban is twice a day so you need some mechanism in place to remind you. I have a watch with a loud double alarm and this does the trick. Because it's very important to take the tablet on time every twelve hours - 9 and 9 for me but it matters not what times you choose - you can't necessarily rely on your memory - especially as we get older. I've been late with the odd one or two over the year - distracted at alarm time - but you mustn't be complacent about that. This is the only nagging issue however compared to taking warfarin, it's a dream.

I think Apixaban is excellent! Warfarin was my one of my fears when first diagnosed! I to use an alarm on my phone for my evening dose 8pm because if you're out at friends etc it's easy to forget! Morning no problem!

If you are a lady this will not be of concern to you! but I have heard of two Guys recently on Apixaban with blood in their urine caused by bleeding from the delicate blood vessels in their prostates diagnosed with a cystoscopy. They developed prostate infections and needed weeks of antibiotics. One has been offered laser treatment to seal the blood vessels.

I had burst blood vessels in my oversized prostate when taking warfarin but as I had once had that previously it was not connected to the warfarin.
