After Exercise

I have a resting heart rate of around 60 bpm (not sure if just fit or the Flecainide).

I do a lot of cycling and when i do a small ride of around 10 miles my pulse returns to a normal resting rate. However when i do bigger miles of around 50 miles plus my resting rate is around 80 and lasts for hours.

Just seeing if anyone has the same.

Thanks

Hi Chris, I'm on Flecainide and I too exercise regularly. My resting HR is anything between 55-65. I do cycle, but only to work now and again, but depending on what other activities I do I tend to get differing HR readings afterwards. Sometimes it settles pretty quickly and others it can take a couple of hours to settle. I also get a quicker HR sometimes with certain foods.

I think us AFibbers naturally tend to look too much into the mechanics (Or I suppose that should be electrics) of how our hearts behave. I don't know what my heart would do prior to AF, so can't compare.

Hi Jason

I think you are spot on with we look too much onto things.

Hi Chris, I'm the same after a long ride when I maintain a moderate to high average HR the darn thing just sits at around 85 to 90 for a couple of hours after. The best thing I have found is to re-fuel as soon as I get back home, shower and rest for at least 20 mins and things seem to settle much faster than pottering about. I also eat dark chocolate, almonds and walnuts shortly after a ride, that's for the omega 3 and magnesium. I also eat low GI food as I find that high GI foods just set the heart racing. I hope that helps.

I am on flecainide and I had that (high HR after exercise) regularly if I pushed myself hard on a run or a swim.

I recently switched from 200mg to 100mg and i have noticed a massive difference in how quickly my heart rate recovers - both during and after exercise.
