I cut my finger today in the kitchen, a small wound - but the last time this happened I was on warfarin and I bled profusely. This time I didn't have that problem, it only took a minute to stop. I can't decide if this is good or bad. Anyone help?
Changed from Warfarin to Riveroxaban ... - Atrial Fibrillati...
Changed from Warfarin to Riveroxaban six months ago - no complaints but..........
I whacked my ankle on the corner of the dishwasher this morning....I was expecting bleeding or bruising at the very least, but had neither. I am on dabigatron. Seeing the cardio on Monday and will put my concerns to him and post his views.
Doesn't fill you with confidence does it? Dying to hear what the people who know have to say. Mind you, I've had a few cuts with Warfarin, and they haven't bled badly either. Maybe how you have cut yourself makes a difference, just guessing.
Koll
No, because I have had the same experience! I seem to bleed and bruise less than before so I wonder how it works?
Agree with Koll.
Also INR changed continuously , it is not always stable .
I'm on warfarin since 13 years Now and I injured myself few times rarely got that bad bruises , except when a bad nurse trying to get a blood for the lab in addition to bad period bleeding of course .
Also had two ablations on warfarin only one big bruise left on one side only.
Just when you got injuries put ares sure on the wound for few minutes and the bleeding will stop.
Thanks for you replies. I was perusing the internet seeking information, there appears to be a consensus that the risk of cranial bleeding decreases on Riveroxaban as opposed to Warfarin but I can't find any definitive info.
I am definitely bleeding and bruising less on dabigatran. Would love to know why.
I've noticed the same with regard to xarelto, but have read so much on the postive aspects that I am "choosing" to believe it is to our advantage! In the meantime the following link does not answer your question to why but provides interesting comparative information relative to several anticoagulants!
I have just succeeded in arranging a private appointment with my cardiologist next Monday night (9th June). I will find out what he knows and share any useful information with you.
With my cardioligist last night. To cut a long story very short - I was told that there is no evidence out there that would suggest that bleeding varies with Warfarin or Riveroxaban. The reason why my minor wound didn't bleed profusely was due to a number of other factors and I shouldn't attach much importance to it. I apologise for not being the bearer of more definitive info.
