Warfarin gets blamed for lots of things including stomach bloating but I have never experienced it. The only thing I have found is that my nails are brittle and keep getting broken but I do work with metal and machines a lot. Some ladies think that hair breaking and going thinner may also be blamed on it. None of these things are listed as side effects mind you.

Hi Bob,

Yes I get broken nails too. I sail quite a bit and I'm always banging my hand. I can get little chips or just cracks which are then very annoying because they catch on things. I also blame them on the warfarin though I don't have any other side effects. I try to keep my nails as short as possible. Pretty minor all things considered though.

Agreed. Quite nasty sometimes if you aren't near some nail clippers.

That's where women are very useful - they usually have a nail file!

I have been taking warfarin for approx. 2 years now. I don't think I have experienced bloating, but this summer have had swollen ankles and feet, which I put down to the hot weather, although not quite back to normal yet. It might be a good idea to check with your EP. Keep well.

Some types of AF are linked to the vagus nerve which also supplies the stomach. I used to get a lot of bloat but connect it to the AF not the warfarin.

I'm on warfarin since 13 years now and have to continue all my life due to the mechanical valve I have

the only side effects I had was a rash for the first ten days

Recently my hair got little thinner and dry , and my nails as well which the doctor linked it with lack of vitamin D which is possible also in addition to hormones changes .

Occasionally gum bleeding

In addition to the worse problem for ladies the heavy bleeding during period!

I wish all other medication are the same as warfarin in limited side effects!

I've been on Warfarin for 5 months and most of that time I have had incredible bloating. It is a rare side effect of the drug. I only have to be on it for one more month so my doctors are not doing anything about the bloating until I get off the Warfarin. Seriously, some days I look about 7 months pregnant! I hope it ends when I'm off the drug.

Have you found anything to deal with it?
