Steve, whilst the target is 2.5 few people ever get spot on this. So long as your INR is between 2 and 3 for four consecutive weeks I would think they will be happy.. I expect they will ask you to stop the warfarin five days prior to the procedure and may ask you to inject clexane for those five days. Different EPs have different ideas so this may not be so.

Hi Steve

If you are above 2 now, then you should stay there for your CV, your anti-coag nurse will probably err on the side of high over the next two weeks to try and ensure you are high enough, but they test your INR on the day you are admitted, usually the very first test they do.

I'm not a medic so can't call what INR they will go ahead with or not, and it probably depends on other factors as well, but over 2 sounds likely they would go ahead

Good luck

Ian

Hi Steve

When I had mine I was just like you, my INR was up and down like a banana in a lift (I could have used another analogy but this is a family site :) )

Where I was treated at Harefield, they do not ask you to come off the warfarin, so Bob D, our sage and very learned colleague is talking about something I have not experienced.

I just checked my "yellow book" and on the day I was 2.8, but 7 days previously had been 2.1, 7 days prior to that 3.2, and 7 days prior to that 1.9 so stability seems to take some time to come.

Sounds like you are going to be fine

Rgds

Sorry I am being stupid about clexane. Not for cardioversion-- and you should stay on warfarin all the time till they say otherwise. Stopping warfarin is for ablations not cardioversions.

no problem Bob , i appreciate your reply, its just good to be able to talk and ask questions with people who are in a similar position with more experience of this , thank you

My INR is very unstable but 2-3 is usual for cardioversion and ablation at my hospital never stopped warfarin for either procedure either did prior to surgey of another nature .

in reply to

Warfarin was not stopped for either my cardioversion or ablation earlier this year. Also I have had cardioversion at 1.9 INR -- they will look at your previous results & make decision.

thanks for the reply Sandra i am just worried about the hospital cancelling my cardioversion ive already been waiting ages and i dont want to stay on all these drugs much longer , i am on warfarin , bisoprolol, ramipril and flecanide , i and i feel like a zombie its terrible

in reply to Steveh6874

As you probably know Steve, warfarin levels can be affected greatly by what you eat . I would advise you to continue eating a similar diet over the next 2 weeks . Don't introduce extra green veg to what you have been eating or change your normal alcohol intake. This should help to keep your INR more stable . I had an awful time earlier this year with ' zombie - ism' from drugs but hang on until after your DCCV & seek advice then or sooner if it is delayed. Best of luck .
