I would certainly say there is. As an example a few weeks ago my brother and his wife rang to say they were in the area (they live about 200 miles away) and that they would be round to see me in half an hour. Whoosh off went my heart racing away!!

100%! It may not be a cause but is always a contributing factor. This world we live in is thought driven. I know that may be hard to accept but it is. How often have you thought about an old friend and shortly afterwards the phone rings and they are on the other end? Only the other day I rang the wrong David by accident only to be told. "oh Bob we were just saying we should ring and see how you were". It is a bit like opening a program on a computer....think of something and is happens, good or bad. O K it may not be that simple but it is surprisingly common although I keep thinking of a lottery win with no success. LOL

As I said in another post, relaxation therapy and similar ways can help a patient to accept and deal with their symptoms. Roll with the punches rather than being knocked down and in so doing learn to accept and live with their AF. AF may be in your life but don't let it be ALL of your life.

Grandma put a good post on this site about breathing and relaxation a few weeks ago. Look back and see if you can find that. It really made me think 'Am I holding tension in my heart' and I think the answer was yes. Could holding tension there cause the AF? Who knows but it's certainly worth giving it some thought. I drop my shoulders, do the breathing Grandma suggested and I think it really helps.

I have found that sudden stress has no effect because I just deal with the problem and then it's gone. However long term anxiety such as looking after a sick relative or anxiety at work, definitely makes attacks more frequent and last longer from Dedeottie.

Grandmas blog was called 'Do this now' and put onto the forum 30th May. It's only available for members to view so hope you are one, as it costs nothing.

I would definitely say that anxiety can be a contributary factor, but then again my AF seems to come on when I am at my most relaxed and my heart has slowed down!!!

Hi timmo

I think for me it is a cycle

I got AF attach then I got anxious and stresses , afraid it may happen again

But after my last attack and cardioversion I cant relax with very high anxiety level

Is it because of flecanide I started it three wooks ago ?

Doctors dont know

I may stop it for a while by myself to know since anxiety is killing me
