I have now been told that I cannot drive, I had already stopped and have no intention of doing so until I have the all clear to do so.
Question, Do I need to tell the Dvla? or just start driving again when I am told I can?

Hi BStanding.
Yes I think you have to tell the DVLA is the doctors have told you not to drive and then advice them when you are told you are fit to drive
the form is here
You may have to tell your insurance company as well, particularly if you have a joint policy with your spouse or others.
AFA I have asked this before, can you PLEASE write to the DVLA for a ruling about A Fib and notification, their website says notify on the "drivers" page, but when you look at the information for doctors, it says only notify if the arrythmia has caused or is likely to cause incapacity.
We need some guidance please AFA it's confusing, and at worst we could not be insured to drive.
Good luck BStanding, and wihsing you all the best
Ian
Ian this has been explained I thought. The point is that drivers, i e patients must advise DVLA and complete the form. Doctors do not have to report the condition although the should advise their patients. The rules are that if you are distracted or incapacitated by AF then you must not drive. Provided that neither of these happen then on completion of the form you will be permitted in all likelyhood to return to driving..
Some conditions require doctors to report their patient to DVLA but not AF.
Since the condition is a material fact you must advise your insurance company but in most cases this will not make any difference to your policy. Failure to report may give them the opportunity to refuse to honour a claim.if the fact came out later.

Thank you Ian, somehow I am a bit puzzled because I am currently not driving intil I am told otherwise.
As Ian above.....The DVLA will write and confirm that you are ok to drive. They may check with your doctor(s) on the severity of your AF. I waited 6 weeks and they wrote and confirmed my fitness to drive.
I played safety first and waited for confirmation.
