My hubby has been taking Aberiterone for one year and he has been experiencing Afib. Is this a side effect of the drug and is there an alternative medicine that he can use without Afib side effects?

Aberiterone side effects
Hello,
Abiraterone is an ARPI (Androgen Receptor Pathway Inhibitor) drug. There are many others. Try one of the lutamide drugs like Enzalutamide (Xtandi) or Darolutamide and see if that works. Good luck!
Sure there are alternatives to Abiraterone. The "lutamides" as a group are a very different technology, specifically an "androgen receptor antagonist". But the advice to "try something else", is super casual. This is a really big decision. And it might be the right decision. But who knows the advisability of switching in the middle of long-term therapy to a completely different approach?
It would be helpful if you get a chance to update and fill in your hubby's bio. I'm assuming he is taking Prednisone every day along with the Abiraterone. The drug (Abiraterone/ Zytiga) is known to have heart effects on a small percentage of people taking it.
Maybe your husband is one of them. If this is the case then you need to be speaking with the medical oncologist as soon as possible. I'm assuming you have one, and not only a urologist.
Also talk/see his cardiologist................ (and if possible update your dear hubby's bio).
Good Luck, Good Health and Good Humor.

Probably unrelated. Prostate cancer and Afib are both more likely is we age. He should see a cardiologist. My Afib was completely corrected with RF ablation.
Has he had ecg to confirm the afib, is it paroxysmal or persistent, can't be classed as permanent if in afib for less than a year.I was diagnosed paroxysmal in May '20 and prescribed a beta blocker, very few episodes since.
Also advised is an anti coagulation to reduce afib related stroke, I'm on apixaban.
Any comorbidites such as high blood pressure, type 2 diabetes etc.
If he ain't seen cardiologist, sooner the better.
I'm not aware of afib brought on by arberitarone
As has been said, Abi is unlikely to be the cause. As has also been said, knowing more about his overall health would be helpful. We have much experience with almost everything related to this disease.
A cardiologist was wisely suggested however it is an electrophysiologist that you’ll ultimately want to connect with for a solution. Speaking from experience. My wife for Covid-induced AFIB and me for PVCs.
True about medication. However, if Multaq is offered run the other way. Dangerous stuff.
Are you in the states and near a major cancer center? The reason I ask is there is a cardiology subspecialty called cardiologist oncologist. We are at Mayo and my husband has cardiac issue from under going chemo. He was referred to cardiology. When I asked if his Nubeqa could be making it worse, the resident and attending both said this is best addressed by an oncology cardiologist. My husband’s issue was from malnutrition during chemo and has since resolved.
Also my brother in law has a fib from a recent flu and covid infection. Has your husband had either recently? Regardless, see a cardiologist and ask for a full work up.
Yes. Aberiterone is potentially one of the triggers of AFib. My husband experienced the same.
Radio frequency ablation (RFA) could be the cure for the sympton. Talk to Pain management practisioner. They ara expert on this case. Hope this would help..My prayer for your hubby recovery
