Thank you Carlos! It is one piece of many that I wrote while deep in the throes of the post-RP maelstrom, sent to the CANCER-L listserve. One pass, no editing, I was an emotional typing fool! I never saved any, but others did, and got some back. Here’s another short one. Remember, this was just post RP.

NEEDS

I need . . .Soft songs, calming the chaotic parts

Of my mind.

Soft hands, caressing the tired parts

Of my body.

Soft words, healing the wounded parts

Of my soul.

But, alas,I am alone.

I need.

Thanks!

Here’s another I wrote for my wife who was almost killed by her chemo for Breast Cancer (damned Adriamycin) while I was also recovering from RP for PCa:

A TOUCH AND A PRAYER

Her body is betraying her,

Her eyes have told me since

I see her lying on the couch,

And trying not to wince.

I listen to her breathing, and

Remembering to count,

Mark breaths as seconds of her life,

And hope she can surmount,

The pain that’s roaring through her now,

And causing my chagrin.

I only pray the Morphine works,

And calms her once again.

I’m the observer to the path

She’s traveling right now,

If I could end this, man! I would …

But I have no clue how!

No, I can only sit and pray.

It isn’t very much,

Unless you count the healing ways,

Of a lover’s gentle touch.

very emotional and poignant …. That really fits in , in multiple cancer circumstances , doesn’t it. Nice poem. Lotsa love there.

We had another poet here a while back, Cisco99 . He’s passed now, he turned out to be a world recognized writer and poet. His poems , here, were filled with the soul of a man facing death . A lot of people chastised him not realizing what a famous poet he was and not grasping prose.

Emptying your heart and soul prose and poems takes skill and a willingness to share … bare …your heart with others. We have a thing here on the group called QOL , Quality of life , posting. Poems and prose , revealing your heart …. shared with brothers all facing death is very much a QOL thing.

👏👏👏❤️❤️❤️

I liked Cisco99 right away and remember he was hit in a similar way as the QOL posts. I read more of his work after he passed. Loved his writing.

beautiful guy , I was astounded at the thousands that lamented his unfortunate passing , world wide. Who knew. He was a true , powerful, luminary.

Thank you. I am not any sort of a recognized poet or writer, but I try to use words to express my feelings as a multiple cancers patient.

I wrote this one in the Dana Farber Cancer Institute in Boston, while waiting for yet another bone scan for one of my multiple cancers.

ON SEEING

I watched a patient sit and wheel

Who had a secret smile;

As if she knew a way to heal,

That no one has on file!

She moved so slowly down the hall,

I thought she’d never make it;

But she sat smiling all the way,

And really didn’t fake it!

I had to ask her what she did,

To be so cheerful, grounded;

And this is what she said to me,

As I stood by, dumbfounded . . .

“I simply think of all the things

I’ve done throughout my days;

And all the love I’ve had poured on,

In oh, so many ways!

I think about the summer winds,

The gentle falling rains;

The astonished laugh of a happy child,

And I just feel great again!

I may be broken in some spots,

And sickly in a few;

But it doesn’t take away from all

The people I once knew!”

She rolled away, on down the hall,

With a knowing glance to me;

As I stood silent, thinking of

Her words, then thought, “I see!”

The blindness life can deal to us,

Sometimes does not mean eyes;

The memories in that woman’s heart

Her body’s state defies!

Can you see?

I hope writing these is as cathartic for you. Sounds like your family has more than its share of tragedy. Beautiful poetry.

yikes …. This one is especially close to me as I’m about 90% mobility impaired by ADT and it’s deleterious side effects. It nearly brought me to tears ( understatement ) . Beautiful …

Have to laugh to keep from tearing up. Yayahahahaya

also … if ( hopefully ) … when …. you make future ( or even this one ), if you add the “ QOL “, Quality of life prefix to your post it will help on the group. We have a number of strong traditionalist on the group that like it straight medical and medication info only … they aren’t interested in reading the camaraderie , social, friends , heartache posts. Adding QOL signals them to skip posts they don’t care to read. Thank you brother.

👏👏👏
