Platelets: Any advice for low platelets... - Advanced Prostate...
Platelets
Mine are also very low. Here is what I have read as far as possible self-help to possibly bring them up: papaya leaf extract, chlorella/spirulina (algae), wheatgrass, aloe vera, and melatonin. I do not know if any of these actually work, but I have just started taking a few. None would seem harmful in reasonable doses.
Things to avoid: alcohol, quinine, aspartame and cranberry. (Possibly also reduce consumption of "good" things that might help to hinder platelet aggregation, like ginger, garlic, onion and turmeric/curcumin.)
Thank you.....also have developed a bleeding nose from time to time.
I had a little of that myself. Also important to limit NSAIDS like ibuprofen, aspirin, etc. I have switched to Tylenol for now.
All those "good" things that help keep blood thinner to avoid stroke, heart attack, etc. are now risk factors for insufficient clotting.
I have also been taking vitamin K, and have reduced my D3 supplement to a very low dose, as I read a high dose may not be good for platelets.
Less than 150,000 platelets per microliter indicate a low platelet count. Having a low platelet count can make it difficult to stop bleeding. Your body can bleed internally, subcutaneously, or externally from the skin's surface.
