MAOI

This looks interesting. Therapy is through phase II trials. Possibly works for a fraction of PCa patients. No control so hard to say. Might be another "pomegranate" type fiasco.

MAO-Inhibitors are very effective anti depressant medicines which require avoidance of all tyramine containing foods such as beer, fava beans ,cheese and many more. Mixing them with these foods can cause sharp rise in blood pressure. There are two members in MAOI category, Phenelzine and Tranylcypromine. A popular herb, Saint John's Wort also has anti anxiety and anti depressant properties.. .has mild MAO inhibitor qualities ...without much side effects.

This class is something to watch as it might be a great medicine for PCa. . Just last year, another anti depressant, Sertraline (Zoloft) was found to have anti-prostate cancer properties. In my list for possible future use.

I recall reading something about another antidepressant. I don't recall which one (I don't think it was sertraline or phenelzine).

Thanks for pointing out the food restrictions. With PCa I don't drink beer and don't eat cheese. I'll look into the other restrictions. I'm going to add this and continue barring side effects.

It'd be nice to have more data but gotta do what you gotta do. And surviving is part of the equation :)

Progression free survival is not part of the equation...It is the entire equation...LOL.

In India, there is an old saying " Are you interested in eating Mangoes.. Or in just counting Mango trees"

There is another antidepressant that might be useful against cancer: Wellbutrin (generic name: bupropion). He's a post I made ages ago with links to studies showing possible benefits.
