Anyone have experience buying Xtandi from Canadian Pharmacies? Could you recommend a trustworthy pharmacy?

Hello,

My first reply to this post seems to have disappeared so I will try again. I am not sure that you can get Xtandi from a neighbourhood drug store. I get my prescription filled in the Cancer Clinic pharmacy attached to a regional hospital. I have to show my British Columbia Care Card and give my Cancer Clinic number.

However, having said that London Drugs, Shopper’s Drug Mart, and Rexall Drugs are all reputable drug stores in western Canada. Do a Google search for reputable drug stores in eastern Canada. Hope that helps.

I don’t know about Xtandi but I get all my meds, including Zytiga, Xgeva, and Eligard from my neighbourhood drug store in Canada. Just saying 😀

Hello,

A couple more thoughts on drug stores in Canada. Most large food outlets have pharmacies attached so Safeway, Save-On Foods (western Canada), Loblaws (eastern Canada), Costco, Wal-Mart and many others all have drug stores. The dispensing fees tend to be a little lower in the big box stores. Saying that I am still very skeptical that you can buy expensive drugs like Xtandi from neighbourhood drug stores.

The cost of Xtandi in Canada is over $30.00 (CDN) a pill. Since the normal prescribed dosage is four pills a day x 365 days = that works out to approximately $44,000.00 (CDN) per year. I think that amount is substantially less than what Xtandi (enzalutamide) costs folks in the USA. In Canada, universal health care and provincial cancer agencies pick up the entire cost of drugs that combat cancer. Medicines that simply improve your personal health such as the bone strengthening drugs like Prolia/Xgeva (denosumab) are picked up by individual health care plans. They may (or may not) have a deductible. Hope that helps.

Goodrx gives xtandi US price at about $100 per pill.

It sure seems like $30 a pill is worth traveling to Canada and back to fill a prescription.

The real question it would seem is will they accept a US prescription.

Even if not, it might be worth visiting a Canadian doc and getting a Canadian prescription.

So, what is your plan Raff5757?

I get my Xtandi pills free of charge here in Sweden as long as I have a valid prescription.

I have serious metastatic prostate cancer - and feel well. I am alive thanks to The Welfare State - and high income taxes. It is called civilisation.

Occasionally I get ads for Canadian Drug outlets to but drugs over the Internet. But I have not gotten any for a while. You might try doing an Internet search for Canadian drug stores. You will then be overrun by offers. Check your spam folder.

There are options to get this for free. the xtandi website has a low income program you can apply for. Charity foundations like PAN also have programs to pay for this drug. I got mine for free.

This. If you make about 4x the poverty limit per year, you can qualify for free meds from them and Zytiga- I got both for no cost last year. The financial counselor at my cancer center (Mays - MD Anderson, San Antonio) did everything for me - she even had a starter month of Xtandi in her office they gae me first day of subscription, then CVS speciality in Dallas filled it monthly. They would even call me to see if I was ready for the next bottle.

My issue is a little more complex. I have insurance which has rejected XTANDI since I failed it once and I am re-challenging XTANDI after completing a year of chemo and six months of Xofigo. Interesting the first two months of the re-challenge appears to be working. I am retired but my wife is still working and her salary may be slightly above that limit. We shall see.

Good to know, because after my chemo, I want to try XTANDI again. Still have a almost a full bottle remaining. The fact that I did not go through medicare part D to get it means I can probably get another bottle at a 33% copay thru medicare.

Holy Chit! Geezamacripe! At 100 a pill.... I think I'd tie a string on it and after swallowing it yang it up and out in order to re-use it.

Good Luck and Good Health.
