I saw the radiation oncologist today. They felt it is time to do a larger field of raise in my back and femur, that it would help with my pain that is constant, 24/7. Have others been through this with good results? It will be for ten sessions. I am a little nervous and scared to be honest. Thanks.

Beginning radiation next week

I had radiation to my T8 vertebra when first diagnosed. Was in tremendous pain and they put me on opioids. The radiation helped tremendously. I was off the opioids in a week and returned to work. Been working ever since. 😊
Only side effect I had from radiation was fatigue - which I combated with exercise. (I walked 3-miles per day).
Nothing like what I feared. You will do great!
Best,
James
All i have seen is great resuls from palliative care if spine and bones. It's not like getting it around the colon bladder and stuff. Thats where the side effects come in i beleive. I feel you wll be fine. GOOD LUCK

For pain palliation only one or two sessions are really necessary. It's just as effective, and less expensive. Is there a reason why he is doing it across 10 sessions?
The pain has gone on for many months in a large area my femur, pelvis, and spine. They say it will take that much time. I am not a doctor to question it.
I did 37 sessions of radiation on my prostate bed after my surgery didn't catch it all. I realize that is NOT the same as what you are about to go through in terms of radiated area, but I would say the process was easy, painless, I worked every day through it and social life continued as normal. The fatigue was a pain, especially towards the end of the treatment where I would be very tired in the evenings, but I'd do it again in a heartbeat if I needed it.
Hi, My husband couldn't hardly walk because of the tumor on his hip and numerous bone mets in same area. After only two weeks ten treatments he was walking normal. All together Sam had I think five or six weeks of radiation, at that time. Now years later my husband went into kidney failure with a tumor that was blocking his kidney tubes, had surgery and nerostomey tubes for six months, this time radiation shrunk the tumor to nothing, He able to urenate on his own was able to have tubes removed🙏🏻 I thank God!! The only side affect Sam had from radaition was some fatigue, nothing else. Don't fear it's really a life saver and from all that I hear that's the only side affect is some fatigue., which for my husband was very little.
Take care, keep us posted. You will be pain free after your treatment.
Best wishes!!
Sincerely,Lynn. Pa
Pain free. That's is what I want. Thanks.
My definition of a good day: either no pain or a small amount of pain.

Pain is improving. Fatigue and nausea worse that I expected. Slept so much this weekend and here I go again. Work has been hard, even thinking straight.
Did well, both femurs, left shoulder. Reduced pain, additional fatigue, but shorter term.
I recently had 10 fractions of radiation over 10 days to T5 and L4. The pain has reduced. My worst side effect was severe esophagitis. I couldn't eat solid food for 1 week and lost 5kg in weight. That was pretty awful, but I still feel it was worth it. I also had radiation to my femur last year, no side effects and it massively reduced pain in that are and apparently strengthened my bone too. Good luck.
