I was a 1st Sargent (E8) and like the dumb sob I am I got out after 10 years...so no pension or Tricare. Back in the States all we did was practice riot control because of the Viet Nam riots. Started out using real bayonets until some of the protesters were killed ( GI's dressed as civilians) when guys broke ranks because they could not take having a wet towel slapped in their face...combat is one thing but all this political BS back in the States..I could not take it any longer and got out. One benefit I did get was full disability at 59..SS and Medicare.
