Hi, I'm wondering if any of you have heart conditions, and if so, what ADHD meds are you on?
I have a heart condition, and I'm not allowed to take stimulant medication, so I was wondering if any of you are on non-stimulant meds and which one and how you get on with them?
Thanks

I am on non-stimulant atomoxetine (aka Strattera), a selective norepinephrine reuptake inhibitor (SNRI).
I believe it still carries a risk of elevated heart rate and elevated blood pressure, but I also believe it's a much lower risk than stimulants.
* I was originally prescribed Adderall XR, but when my dosage was increased from the baseline, I developed tachycardia. That's part of the reason that my meds were changed to atomoxetine.
{I only have a very minor heart condition, a benign heart murmur. It doesn't seem to be effected by my current ADHD medication. (Heart murmur first diagnosed at 17. ADHD not diagnosed and treated until 45.)}

I know that one non-stimulant ADHD medication is guanfacine (Intuitiv), which was originally developed as a blood pressure medication. I've read that some people are well treated by a combination of Wellbutrin (the brand name of bupropion, an antidepressant) and guanfacine. I don't have experience with either of those.
(Bupropion is a norepinephrine- dopamine reuptake inhibitor.)
Never medicated for ADHD. Heart attack at 52 and bypass surgery at 65. Due to this I am recommended against taking all the medications I know of for ADHD. I self medicate for anxiety and depression with cannabis, which is now legal where I am. It prevents frustration from turning to anger as it has in the past.
