If already diagnosed via a biopsy, been treated, have a rising PSA then "IMO" a 3TmpMRI would not be "elective" since it is neede for possible "Recurrence" locating. <<< I have JUST been through the scenario.

note: not a doctor, health provider, educated medical expert, an insurance expert --- just a guy with prostate cancer

This really depends on youre situation

If you had very low risk dx,previou clean mri preferably 2and no markers showing possible progresion it is safe to defer

Frankly dont like to call it elective if you are in AS its part of monitoring

If you have been on AS for several years with no change and low volume g6 i would not be at all concerned

But if you are just starting or have any g7 would be concerned and push for having it done

Please provide more details of youre situation

Let me repeat dont like the idea of calling it elective, but in many cases defering a month or to probably wont make a difference

Can be done with 1.5t mri but must use endorectal coil.

Also must be skilled at doing prostate multiparamtric mri pirads 2

Search on pirads2 to find more info

Good luck

Yourre urologist should know if the provider is capable of doing the proper mri. Also call them and ask about their experience
