So many questions this T generates...I went to the dentist today and the dentist said my teeth are showing signs of grinding, also my jaw muscles are not aligned? She went on to say that this could be a contributory factor to my T and I should speak to my GP.
Well, my GP has 10 minutes to listen, diagnose and treat or refer. I usually get "come back in a week if it doesn't get any better", just to fob me off. I'm sure my GP has the countdown clock on her wall!
So should I bother pursuing? What would I gain? If there's no cure then I don't see the point in taking up medical time and time off work if there's no cure. I can't see that knowing that the possible cause of my T may be, probably, could be caused by my Jaw/teeth.

Re- grinding teeth, ever since I can remember I have always been grinding my teeth more so at night it seems, and now its got to the point that I have had to have my worn down front teeth reconstructed and built up just to give me a better-looking smile!!!!. I must admit that 20 years of married life didn't help but that another story.
At a recent dental visit, my dentist advised me to have a mouth guard made and to use this at night to prevent my teeth from grinding I did this for several weeks but found I could not get used to it so now I don't bother
Grinding teeth and the strain this can have on the TMJ joint could possibly make people's T worse, my own experience is that my T was 99.5 % caused by loud noise, due to the nature of the work I do, and a virus in my left ear, whether my TMJ could be another cause I don't know, it's possible.
It's up to you mind, but it might be worth a GP's referral to your local Maxillofacial clinic at your local hospital for X-rays to assess any problems you might have with your jaw. it's Just a thought and something to rule out
Cheers Dave, I share your thoughts on married life, my Mrs has been wearing me down for years, especially when she talk to me as she's leaving the room...boy do I grind my teeth then, she knows I can't hear through walls!
My dentist suggested a mouth guard at night but I don't think I could be comfortable with a guard.
You could have temporomandibular joint disfunction TMJ which apparently can contribute to T. To help relieve any jaw tension my dentist made me a lower gum shield which I use at night and which cushions the jaws - although I feel a bit like a rugby player. Sad to say this doesn't affect the T though, my toleration of which depends on how stressed I am by other things.
Good luck - could be worth pursuing, and will preserve the enamel on your teeth.

Get it checked out i have tmjd and its not nice, i have a Arthrocentesis to my jaw joint on monday ie a wash out they are also going to realign my jaw , my teeth dont open, on a liquid diet, mine started with just grinding my teeth it causes lots of problems with face, ears, mouth, sinuses loss of hearing, tinnitus even pain in shoulder , get yr dentist to make you a retainer she can refer you to the maxillofacial unti at yr local hospital, Hope you get it sorted x
Hello there, just to say that a misaligned jaw or problems with the jaw joints can most certainly cause tinnitus, as I have both on a regular basis, in fact my life would be complete hell if I hadn't got my hands on the book, taking control of TMJ it has exercises for the jaw which helps greatly with some of the pain. I don't know how long you've been suffering the tinnitus, but I've had it for years, so I've pretty much tried everything!! Take care.
Hi Emily, Had tinnitus since last july not long but horrendous, my tmj isn't much better my teeth are locked with the jaw only got 5 cm opening had op done no better in constant pain, I have had exercises for jaw dental work done retainers made for during day and night nothing is helping doesnt help i have worn a hole in the disc lol to much talking i guess, op has been waste of time made everything worse saw gp monday she said this is as good as it gets... At a check up with surgeon 6th october... Have a good weekend ...
