Hyperthyroidism, low B12, raised iron and ALT.
Hi, I had Graves Disease 5 years ago and recovered fairly quickly with carbimazole. My thyroid is over active again so GP has put me back in carbimazole. Low B12 but test for celiacs and intrinsic factor is negative so I'm taking a high dose of B12 tablets and will be retested in 6 months. Does anyone

Can you just recover from a B12 deficiency?
Hi! I’m looking for some advice. A number of years ago, I went to my then GP because I had a number of tiny ulcers all over my tongue (double figures). He ran some blood tests and diagnosed me with a B12 deficiency. He prescribed me with B12 supplements for 6 weeks (cannot remember doseage or frequency

B12 supplementation
Hi I receive b12 injections every 12 weeks and I supplement daily both by tablet and oral spray. As I understand it, b12 is stored in the liver and released into the gall bladder where along with folic acid etc a substance called intrinsic factor is created. I am not sure if this is entirely correct

Advice on Second B12 Test
So I eventually had my intrinsic factor results back last week – negative. Given all the things I’ve read about the IFAB test I wasn’t particularly surprised, but of course it’s set me worrying about not getting the treatment I need i.e. no injections. I went to see my GP this morning, and she’s told

Alternate therapies
Hello everyone. This is my first post. 4 months ago I was diagnosed with wet macular in right eye. The same afternoon I was referred to a retinal specialist by my opthomologist and was given an injection of Avastin. Within 10 min afterwards the pain was excruciating. No sleep that night from pain.

Active B12 test-is it worth paying privately for?
Hiya, I wondered if anybody had paid privately for an active B12 test after a serum B12 fell within normal range-420. I will try to cut a long story short; April 2017- B12 serum 166 - told I was a little bit on the low side (had asked for hormone test due to sudden appearance of acne in late twenties

Yippee
If you have read my previous post, then I will continue here. My B12 on December 13th was 178 and now after a month of sublingual dosing it is up to 452 ! Most of the sharp pains I was feeling in and around my knees has gone, I can now stand from sitting on the floor cross legged without using hands

Anxiously awaiting diagnosis
Hi all, Firstly, apologies for the rambling post, but it really helps to write things down sometimes. I’m new and found my way here through the PAS webpage, as I was researching causes for low B12. I visited my GP in November as I was suffering with some digestive problems and was feeling very tired

Intrinsic Factor
Does anyone know how long the test for IF takes? My GP has said if I don’t have IF I can have injections every 8 weeks instead of the 10 weekly that I’m on. Is that normal? I'm very lucky that I have a supportive GP.

Confused
I had an appointment with rheumatology late December last year because bloods showed rheumatoid factor, waited 3 months for this appointment after over two years suffering lots of flair ups. Was told after consultation and bloods taken for lupus they would see me in three months. I have received a letter

B12 150 or 190 lower limit?
My B12 at 178 is way above the lower limit? Or is it? Hi there. I asked the Doctor to check my B12 because of some symptoms I was having, eg tiredness, joint pain, mostly knees, and lower back, involuntary biting of tongue, and inside cheeks (really weird), and my mother and father were both diagnosed

Have I missed a trick?! Intrinsic factor testing without gpc antibodies test
I had a rushed but good conversation with GP. He says my b12 has been about 200 since 2015!! I didn’t even know it had been tested before. In December 2017 b12 was 175. Since I have autoimmune thyroiditis I asked to be tested for PA. He agreed and ordered intrinsic factor antibodies test. Is testing

Hello Mine is a bit of a long story so hope this is ok. I am 58 I had my gallbladder out in 2013 before that I thought I was eating not to bad but obviously I wasn’t. I had lots of gallstones, I got pancaraties and that’s how I knew I had a problem with gallstones. Anyway I got diagnosed with fibromyalgia

Could methotrexate actually be working???
Hi, Let me preface this by saying I am in the US, so I take 1mg of folic acid every day. Every US based website I have reviewed said that patients may begin to see improvements within 4-8 weeks, I know I have read on here somewhere between 8 & 12 weeks. I have taken my 4th week of pills this past Saturday
