Only b12 is necessary

Thank you Andy, I do take certain vitamins regularly, I find living with chronic conditions I get more depleted than most, even though i have a healthy diet

I have read that the sewers are full of undigested tablets. The minerals in tablets are basically ground up rocks, not as bioavailable as the organic minerals in plant foods.

Thank you HealthSeeker7, you do have to be selective, I do think if your in normal range, then they won't help and only need to be taken if your depleted in the vitamin/mineral you are taking. I have found certain supplements very helpful to me : >

Normal range -as set by the government's health bodies -is not usually the optimal range.

For what ? If you have certain health issues then other supplements may well be necessary.

Hello Alchemilla12, The was just asking what your thoughts were on taking vitamins. I believe in taking them, but there are lots of theories out there saying they are bad for you, or infact worse. Sorry for any confusion

Hi Kitten -whiskers

my reply was meant to be for andyswarbs who said B12 was the only one necessary.I just wondered why he was so adamant that this was the only one. As i said earlier , if you have certain chronic conditions then you may need to take supplements to get you into the optimal range at least until things are improved.

Great poll Debs, I think we have to look at soil deficiency of magnesium and the lack of sunlight in winter which can cause vitamin D deficiency.

So to me they have an important role to play but should be taken as part of a balanced diet rather than a substitute for one.

I take certain ones occasionally, would take them more often, but I usually forget except for the lutigold ones for eyesight which I take at least 5 days a weak. If I stop taking these, I notice it.

Thank you Rosepetal, I agree with that as well, If there is an issue then these supplements are necessary but if you don't have a problem then you won't benefit

I think in cases they are necessary. I take B12, Probiotics and also think vitamin D is important. I also have health issues.

Agreed, now you are vegan, what do you do about your Iron (If you don't mind me asking)

Best wishes

Debs

Don't mind you asking at all Debs, I don't actually take anything at the moment but I'm sure I need to.

All the best to you.

I always found myself low in Iron, but they could be more to do with my illnesses than being Vegan, so I take a low dose Iron supplement from Lamberts

Hope you are still feeing better πŸ˜€ you have done brillantly

β€’ in reply toKitten-whiskers

I'm pretty sure I am low in iron, I don't think having IBS helps so I'm going to be following the Low FODMAP diet for Vegans and will be ordering a book as I've not been feeling the best for the past few days. My appetite isn't the best, now that's unusual for me. I don't think cashews are helping me - I was making cashew nut milk and loved it but it seemed to be that I started to feel off, I can't put it down to anything else.

Thank you for saying I've done brilliantly, there is no way I'm going back, Vegan forever for me now. :)

So sorry your not feeling so good, it is very disheartening. It could be an allergy or maybe you have done too well and hopefully its just the big change in diet making you feel off colour.

I hope you start to feel better soon xx

Thank you Debs and have just had a chat with my husband and I started to think, actually I have been coughing a bit these past couple of days so I'm convinced now it's actually a virus, if that's the case then it can disappear as I hate feeling yuck. I'll know more in a few days no doubt.

My hubby is convinced I need to go back to being a vegetarian but that's not something I want to do that's for sure.

Hope all's good with you.

Hopefully It is the virus and then will pass. It is horrible feeling 🀒

Still struggling healthwise, I had been doing so well, then got a terrible infection and had to have steriods and antibotics, then piled up with loads of stress, it feels like all my good work has been undone, fingers crossed it will pick up soon, so glad i can go into hibernation a bit and get a break from our awful neighbours

β€’ in reply toKitten-whiskers

Yes I think it may be, I'm not very good when feeling yucky.

Oh I'm so sorry that you've not been well, I really feel for you and to have bad neighbours on top of that. Please don't think your good work has been undone, you will get back up there again.

Take care xx

Thank you Debs, at least I know it's a virus and not IBS so it's not the food I've been eating xx

I’ve only just seen this....I take B12 and iron sachets as I have always been low on iron. A friend of mine said her naturopath said everyone in the UK should take Vit D so I take that when I remember πŸ™‚
