What motivates you to participate in a clinical trial? (Feel free to select more than one option)

The fourth option is a misnomer in some ways. In my experience, the trial medications were free, while the care -- infusion room, nurses, doc visits, scans, BMBs, and any side meds, etc -- were all billed to insurance. On the other hand, though Medicare covered its usual 10 or so per cent of those costs, the hospital never came after me for the remainder.
I'm trying to figure that out. Some things get billed to my insurance and some things don't. I just e-mailed the research coordinator to get a more detailed explanation of it. The study drug and CT scans are not billed, and most doctor visits are not. Then I get billed for a doctor on a study visit in the middle of cycle 2. I'm questioning that. I think it was an error. You have to watch everything.
This poll was not at all clear. It didnt state whether you could choose one or more options, or if you could change your answer.
I get billed for everything except the drug. The non-drug charges are significant as it involves expensive tests and CT scans every 3 months. Fortunately, I just end up paying my deductible which is $3,000. I have always suspected that the CT scans are being driven by the FDA requirements. I am exposed to secondary cancers to make some FDA bureaucrat happy. The sad part is that the drug that I am on should have been approved years ago. The FDA is wasting everyone's money and increasing the risk of secondary cancers.
I am with you! I am a Canadian citizen and am participating in a clinical trial at Ohio State University. The costs are very significant and because I am Canadian nothing is covered except the medication. I was going weekly, monthly, and now thankfully every three months. I am responding well and am looking forward to the day that I am able to get my medication in Canada, so that all the other costs are covered.
In saying that, I am extremely grateful that this clinical trial is available for me otherwise I am not sure where I would be at health wise.
Both trials that I participated in I was assured of getting the cancer fighting drug..
