Hello everyone, I'm new to this site and desperately looking for answers.
Doctors have finally started to take my mum's significant weight loss seriously, yes you read correctly - my mum! She's 77 and started to lose a great deal of weight about 10 years ago. Initially we thought nothing of it, she'd gone through a bereavement and it all looked pretty natural, given the circumstances, however it hasn't stopped!
She had an accident about four years ago which meant that she was admitted to hospital, when she was admitted she was "borderline malnourished".
Countless calls and visits to the doctor have proved fruitless, because she insisted there wasn't a problem. We're now at crisis point. She's had every medical test known to man, all negative, she says she "can't eat", no reason. As of last night she was just 6 stone, she's 5' 4" tall, her BMI 14.4 - any help greatly appreciated.
UPDATE... Mum's weight dropped to around 4 1/2 stone, she's been in hospital three times since January, GP told her at last admission that she would die if she refused treatment... The treatment was observed eating, she was in hospital for a week then, because "medically" there's nothing wrong she was discharged to continue not eating.
She has regular GP and dietician visits, also falls team as she is so weak she cannot stand or walk. She has been referred to an eating disorder clinic but, because of her age, she is low priority I feel.
Watching my mum die ounce by ounce...
