‼ The lesion featured in this post may look like eczema or benign skin lesion, but it is in fact a melanoma! In rarer cases, all types of melanoma can lack pigmentation – these are known as amelanotic melanoma. Jane’s story below highlights just how important it is to get any abnormalities checked out ASAP – AND be persistent in seeking professional clinical assessment ‼
“My dad was diagnosed with a melanoma on his face 34 years ago and I’m happy to say he is now 84!
I have always checked my skin especially as I was born in 1966 and it wasn’t known about the damage the sun can do to our skin.
2 years ago I was worried about my arm, I went to my GP who gave me steroid cream. It didn’t improve so I went back again about 6 months later and insisted I was referred to the hospital. Thank goodness I went because it was stage 1 melanoma. I have just had another 2 removed and I’m waiting for the results.
I have enclosed a picture as it wasn’t the ‘normal’ mole we all expect it to look like. I feel it needs to be shown to people as it looked very much like eczema”.
