Recurrence 5.5 months after 1st line chemo. Disease progression and unclear as to how or what. Have been in hospital twice since recurrence confirmed for pain Mgt and now finally had 1st weekly chemo last week. Haven't yet had frank conversation re spread but I know it's now palative NOT terminal. Would still like to understand though.
What does palative mean. I have never heard this term before while dealing with this awful disease. I know that I have peritoneal ovarian cancer after the surgery and so many chemos. Thank you for explaining. Belsie
The definition of palliative care as stated on the getpalliativecare.org website: Palliative care (pronounced pal-lee-uh-tiv) is specialized medical care for people with serious illness. This type of care is focused on providing relief from the symptoms and stress of a serious illness. The goal is to improve quality of life for both the patient and the family.
My Chemo Onc. didn't hear anything I had to say... any issues I had I would have to bring them to the GYN/ONC surgeons' attention and then something would get done from my stent issues, UTI's, nerve damage etc and usually within 48 hours.
I felt like a static to the Chemo Onc. and not a person who is level headed. I always felt like there were others way more sick than me. So when I did voice my concerns as it turns out were legitimate.
I'm afraid to discuss possible alternative therapy. Particularly immuno therapy. It is being practiced in other countries with some success.
afraid my doc will not care about me and my health anymore, he will leave the decision making to me, instead of sharing thoughts/plans for future treatments
I have never been unable to ask any question BUT the medics have not always been able to answer the question either through lack of detailed knowledge or because they have not prepared for the meeting by familiarisation with my case.
I ask anything and everything. I do my research and discuss my findings with my doctor. He is very open to my input and that's why I chose him. The first doctor I went to see didn't know the latest research and that's why I dumped her. She didn't take my input seriously. I am not easily intimidated by doctors!
It's difficult to find a Dr. Who is familiar with new research and clinical trials. My concern is becoming Carbo resistant as many of the other meds don't work quite as well.
