My partner is 38 weeks and is having shooting pains in the front area pressure pains in the bum and cramps does this sound like it starting?

You should phone midwife!
If it's not the real thing yet, it will come and go, when it's the real thing it will get stronger and stronger, then it's time to call your midwife. As long as baby is still having good movement then it's just a waiting game. Good luck the NCT website has more information about labour if you want any more info
The shooting pains and feeling of more pressure is most likely the baby being v low which is great. Cramps may be early labour but this can have a couple of practice runs before the real thing sometimes. It will start off irregular but clearly contractions before they go regular anyway but when they start to get regular I.e. more than 1 in 10 mins or whenever you’re just worried and need reassurance or advice for pain relief then good time to call midwife x
