Anyone have suggestions to help with Restless Legs. My 80 year old mum has Parkinson's and suffers badly from RLS.

RSL causes discomfort during the day and wakefulness at night. Any suggestions would be greatly apreciated.

It's pretty much impossible to stay still with RLS and usually seems to be worse when lying down or with your feet up. If your mum can manage to get up and walk around for a little while, it will ease off, it's a real pain for her to have to keep getting out of bed, but, it works. Or she could sit up and try circular movements of her ankles. Also, if your mum is being prescribed antidepressants, it's possible they could aggravating her RLS. Take care. :)

Thanks Daisy Turtle for your suggestions. When her legs are at their worse she is practically immobile so getting up and moving around is sometimes not an option. I have been wondering if some of her medications are making the RLS worse but she needs her meds to function. Will keep trying to find an answer to make her days more bearable - thanks for your help

I haven't any personal experience of this so not much help. Guess you have tried adjusting timing of meds. I do read that agonists are the best treatment but they are not so good for older people, likelihood of side effects. If she is on requip taking it at night rather than morning might help. There is a restless leg syndrome forum on here you may get some ideas from. (Access through the green heath unlocked sign below)
