Persistent cough

I have had a persistent cough and excess production of mucus for 8 months ENT consultant could not find a cause and did not think it was due to silent reflux. I sleep propped up but awake coughing every 3 hours. I am wondering whether to try Gaviscon plus or Guardium as my quality of life is suffering.

I believe your symptoms are not uncommon. I have suffered similar symptoms periodically in the past, but not for such an extended period as you. I find Gaviscon helps, as does peppermint tea. However, you need to get to the bottom of it. Have you had blood tests or an endoscopy?

Endoscopy and blood tests both clear which is why ENT consultant seems to have no answer it get than review in 3 months.

I had the very same symptoms and used to cough so bad I would end up foaming sometimes.

I did two things that seemed to help which were recommended by my specialist.

Started using Nasanex to help in case a sinus drip was contributing.

Started taking Gaviscon Dual Action before bed at night.

I have also switched to a cbd oil with thc that is also helping my overall well-being ( back pain and dumping syndrome).

I hope you feel better soon.

It could be LPR (silent reflux), you could look it up to see if any other symptoms. Gaviscon Advance works better than other forms as it is ant reflux and forms a barrier and recommended by the Liverpool University hospital. You should see a GI, endoscopies and bariums only discover some cases/things so a repeat or another test such as manometry & pH test might be advised
