Hi 2itchy, steroid cream is listed as a possible treatment for chilblains. You could try an over-the-counter hydrocortisone cream.

Sure if it is a chillblain the previous treatments will work.
Normally they would occur at the end of the middle toes as they are the furthest away from your heart. BUt with the added pressure of footwear that area is definitely more susceptible. .
Itchiness may also indicate a fungal infection. (some antifungals work more effectively than others)
redness, pain and swelling are symptoms of a bacterial infection.
the 5th toe is subjected to loads of pressure from footwear. it could also be a combination of pressure from footwear (most likely cause) and fungal. HAve you brought new shoes? are you wearing more enclosed footwear lately? have you started exercising/ working more?
The best thing to do is see a foot specialist also known as a Podiatrist. They will confidently be able to diagnose your problem and stop it from occurring again. If it is a bacterial infection you definitely don't want to hope it gets better because worst ase scenario it can spread to bone and result in amputation.
I had something similar at distal joint of left little finger - soon settled ad has not recurred.. I suspect it was a touch of gout. See you GP
