Really think you need to to talk to someone on the BSF helpline. Also your GP. I wonder what is causing the itching. Could it be some sort of skin condition, or of nervous. origin.

All the best -- annieseed

Sorry Annie if was short earlier in my reply I have had psoriasis since 1989 I believe it was the reason I had my heart attack and I just can't cope anymore I have basically itched since 1989 it's crippling me emotionally and physically when the people on embarrassing bodies look better than you it's time to call time nothing works and I can't put up with it any more x thanks for your concern

See you GP get initial diagnosis. Without details it is ver difficult to gage what is wrong. Eczema, Psoriasis, adverse drug reaction, Scabies etc? Give me the following info so that I can signpost you to someone who may be able to help.

Do you take any medications for any conditions?

Have you been told if you suffer from any medical condition that may have caused your symptoms?

How long since you have developed the symptoms?

Is your skin broken/inflamed or dry?

Any previous operation? allergies to anaesthetics are common

What have you used so far and if you had benefited from the treatment?

In any case always remember to see your your local pharmacist or your GP before self diagnosing.

Remember significant number of itch can be caused by existing medications, even if you have used them for a while.

It's psoriasis gp diagnosed in 1989 and itched ever since except one wonderful week in Spain with a private pool it stressed me so much as well as cigs I'm convinced the frustration caused my heart attack had enough nothing works all false hopes given up if I had the courage some days I t would win

I assume they have tried everything including those affecting immune response. They are expensive medication reserved for severe cases of psoriasis when conventional treatments fail to control the condition. You want to get attention from medics then arm yourself with information on treatment. Most doctors follow guidelines and the one that deals with psoriasis comes from NICE. Go to

nice.org.uk/Search.dox=0&y=...

and read all about available treatment and criteria for usage then go an discuss with your consultant.

Then your case reminded me of a place in Iran where volcano hot spring comes to the surface. The place smells like a rotten egg and you can guess the water contains Sulphur. Sulphur normally not soluble in water but the sulphur comes from the spring is soluble. my cousin who had psoriasis use to go there twice a year and after each return he was normal for good part of 6 months, he use to come back with not sign of psoriasis (or at least near perfect). I cannot remember the name but I am sure there are other springs around the world with a similar water characteristics.

Good luck

There are still things you can do. Unfortunately your GP will be the last person who can understand what is available.

Gp's diagnose based on what you tell them. A lot of things which affect you the GP has no interest in. They want to get you out of the door as fast as possible.

Now letts start on what you can do. The first thing is to start to learn Mindfulness. There are a lot of Buddhist groups who practice this and can help you learn what it is. Mindfulness is about learning to root yourself in the now. It helps you notice what emotions contribute towards your illhealth and what emotions that are not helpful and are within your power to change. Buddhist monks study this in themselves 24/7 in contrast to the many in NHS psychological profession who pretend they know something about it but don't.

There are emotional triggers for itching. They are subtle. There are also nutritional triggers for itching. Some are subtle. You need to keep a diary.

Note food and itching can have a time delay of several hours or it can be very quick. Only you can determine this.

Evening Primrose oil may or may not help. Vitamin B complex may or may not help.

Alexander Technique will put you more in touch with your body.

Agoraphobic reactions could be a breathing problem. There has been work done on reducing agoraphobia by changing the way you breathe.

When the skin is itching try washing it in very mild bleach and see if that helps.
