Does anyone get visual disturbance as a result of loud music? I am a musician and worried that frequency, pitch and volume are now a prob.

Hi,

I am a club DJ, I play techno in loud environments. I have not found that either the loudness of the music or the lighting in clubs are detrimental to me with respect to triggering migraines.

In fact, I have occasionally been in the position where I have to DJ whilst suffering a migraine attack, I find that the loudness can drown out the headache whilst I am immersed in it, but that as soon as I leave the club I vomit and experience an acceleration of the headache. Sometimes the headache will develop to be extremely severe under these circumstances.

Turning up the volume of the music is a good trick to get me home if I am driving from a long distance home with a migraine.

Distortion is a bigger problem than volume in my experience.

I hope that this helps.

A perfect example to illustrate that migraine is such an individual condition, what works for one person may not for others. An important thing to note when seeking information online, make sure you see a specialist to help identify the best treatment for you personally.

Hi

I suffer with visual distortions pretty much all the time. It can be made worse by many different factors. I used to play the violin for about 7 years and I used to get a migraine after every lesson or orchestra practise I went too. It wasnt until a few years later I was told I was dyslexic and also suffered with scotopic sensitivty syndrome. Which is basically light bouncing across or blocking out parts of your vision it mainly effects me when reading books or even music. But can affect me walking down patterned stairs, escalators and on sunny days it can affect everything.

Just thought id mention Scotopic sensitivity syndrome, maybe have a look into it and see if the symptoms match the difficulties you have been having.

Hope this helps

Thanks for that. I have recently been diagnosed with irlen's and scotopic sensitivity so I was wondering if this had something to do with it. I've got some special specs now and they do seem to be helping, especially at work under fluorescent lights. When I see the neurologist I am going to mention everything. Thanks for sharing that.
