What medicines to take when i suffer severe pain on one side headache? i.e from head to neck?

I get the exact same type of headache. I found a cold compress really helps get rid of the pain. I found propranolol tablets worked. Though, I've been hesitant to try any other meds since they counteracted with other symptoms. There is plenty out there if you ask your GP. Preventive ones I've heard are better.
