We hope to travel to Lanzarotte on Aug 14th, our son who is 14. He has Fragile X .

hello
Spain is on the amber list so here is the link to the Government advice about this - gov.uk/foreign-travel-advic...
I am not sure what the rules are for your son, or if he would be treated the same as other 14 year olds.
Would you be able to check with you travel agent? Your GP may have more information too.
Please also give our helpline a call on Monday (it opens at 10am) on 0808 808 1111 to see if they have more information.
Best wishes
Sarah
Thank you. Yes I am aware of the Amber rules but I am specifically interested in help for him with special needs.
hi sallycroft, im not in any way knowlegable on this, i have never even been on a holiday other than once to centre parks, ive just showed my support staff your question and she said speak to the airline directly to see what they need from you, each airline is different so they will require different things from you.
Do you mean can he travel because of Covid? Have you taken him on holiday abroad before? If his condition hasn’t stopped him travelling abroad previously he should be allowed to travel. You will probably need proof of vaccination status but I would get in touch with the airline company or who you made the booking with for confirmation of what is needed. Don’t know if your aware of special assistance that travel companies provide for the disabled through security which is really useful. Apologies if I’ve misunderstood your question, I am not familiar with your son’s condition.
Hi Thank you. Yes he has travelled every year. My concern is Covid. He has not been vaccinated and he can not take a test all for medical reasons. So what do we do? Many people must be in this situation. No vacinne no test. All for medical reasons. We can get a letter from the doctor. But is that enough?
Hi Sallycroft, I really can’t give you any advice other than get in touch with the company you booked with and tell them your concerns. If they are able to advise you get it in writing. It’s a tough one, I would certainly have a conversation with his doctor and ask what they would recommend, whether to go or delay it. Sorry I can’t be more help. Enjoy if you do get to go.
Hellothanks for getting in touch.
I suggest contacting the helpline in order to speak to one of our Information & Advice officers. You can call 0808 808 1111 or complete a web form here: mencap.org.uk/contact/conta....
I hope this helps.
Kind Regards
Kieran
Yes he can travel. But if you need special treatment foe him , say he makes a lot of noise screams can’t walk and he needs help , you need to inform the airline directly. Before you leave. So contact them and tell them about your son and what he’s needs are.
