There isn't any way to find this out I'm afraid. All you can do is go back through your wife's history to try and guess where she might have come into contact with contaminated blood. Blood transfusions in the Uk before the 90's. Tatooing. Medical proceedures abroad where safety is not so tight etc. If you look on the British Liver trust site there is a list of risk factors. However many people can not identify with one of these situations and never know how they caught it. This was recently discussed in posts on here.
i think you need to concentrate on getting treatment and supporting your wife. I dont know how i got it and i could have had it for decades way before my 11 year marriage. My husband tested negative. It can lie undetected for years so its sometimes difficult to know.
I am in the same boat - had pneumonia in January of last year on recovery I was unable to walk due to pains in my kidneys - I am sure I was infected from the hospital as I was in the bowl ward among drug addicts. They did several blood tests and confirmed I had Hep C. After testing my wife who is from Dominican republic (who is clear) they informed Hep C can lie dormant for 20 years. I was seriously ill about 10 years ago (similar to the pneumonia) but did not have the symptoms of Hepc (tiredness, nightmares forgetfulness my excretions are yellow etc. ) I have never been a drug user had tattoos etc. The Doctors are alluding any reasonable reason where I caught this from - I await a reply from Darling Hospital where I have made a complaint.
I have purchased drugs from abroad but at the moment are unable to import them without a doctors prescription. Will keep in touch if your wife is similar not receiving any treatment.
There are no symptoms to hepatitis c only the symptoms of the liver damage caused by hepc but that only happens after u had hepc for a very long time and/or dont look after yourself
Afraid not u can try narrow it down by process of elimination. Has she ever been blood donor or when did she last have operation/childbirth coz she would have been tested then and obviously didng have it or they would have told her straight away. Hope this helps
